Personal Work : Fracture

More personal work that has taken quite a while to do. I still need to work on my shading techniques.

An artificial planet breaks apart with pieces of it's hull landing elsewhere, a nice little black hole warms the sky.

Personal Work : Cross testing

Cross_Multi_Test.mp4 from Max Ashby on Vimeo.

A sample of experimental work used in the course of a commission. It features a simple cross design made in Photoshop that was animated in After-Effects, quite simple to make without any real special knowledge.

Personal Work : Arnold physical sky

The Physical Sky tutorial for Arnold in Maya 2018. This is a good first step towards making better skies and sunlight effects.

Personal Work : Lid texture

The flat texture for an upcoming personal project, I'll add some rust and scarring later on. Made in photoshop. I'd like to try adding a bump or displacement map onto this as well.

This personal project is more than just a gimmick, it's letting me learn the processes behind using Arnold in Maya 2018 and getting to grips with the new shaders, lights and methods of UV'ing which have changed since Maya 2016. The tutorials I've done have already been useful and this is more testing and experimenting with Arnold.

Personal Work : Arnold basic exterior lighting

Exterior lighting in Arnold, basic but effective this should also be useful in illuminating objects on the outside.

Personal Work : Animated logo

Test_logo from Max Ashby on Vimeo.

A quick project that I've set for myself over the last few days, made in Photoshop, Maya and After Effects. After searching and doing some freelance work over the months I have discovered that some people are interested in animated and 3D logos, so I've decided to boost my portfolio and freelance prospects with a few simple examples to showcase what I can do. This is a first effort and will be refined later on.

My first attempt in this was to use Maya to make a particle simulation where particles fell into a box and "filled" it up, but after much experimentation and scouring the web I was unable to make this happen. I then decided just to make most of the glass-filling effect in After Effects, the pouring liquid are actually particles made in Maya that I pixealated and recoloured in After Effects.

Quite pleased with this, something simple and quick, also keeps me on my toes with After Effects.

Personal Work : Arnold Ambient occlusion & Geometry overrides

 Geometry Overrides

Ambient Occlusion

The completed tutorials for the Ambient occlusion and Geometry overrides. Good to get the hang of Ambient Occlusion again as it will help in creating more realistic lighting. Geometry overrides are a feature I hadn't learned much about before trying out the Arnold tutorials, it'll prove useful in managing large or complex scenes.

Still getting to grips with compositing images in the post-production but I have started to get better at it.
